GT Automotive was founded on November 1, 1980. Originally located in a small 2 bay shop on the corner of 5300 South State Street, we quickly outgrew that building and moved several times in the Murray/Midvale area. In January 2004, we made plans for a new shop in South Jordan and put the old place up for sale. We then began the process of procuring financing and building permits, and in April 2005, we opened the new shop for business.
Our waiting area in the new facility features a 300 gallon salt water reef aquarium. This has become a hobby for Tim, our owner and brings him and those who visit us much pleasure.
We also have a kid's table with plenty of toys to occupy your little ones for hours, as well as complimentary popcorn to help you have a pleasant experience when you do have to wait for your vehicle. There are always current magazines available and the area is usually very quiet, allowing you time to read or just enjoy the aquarium.
We have an excellent staff up front as well as very competent technicians in the shop. Now here's a chance to meet our crew and learn a little more about them.
Tim Stapleton: Owner
Tim began the business in 1980. He is an ASE Master Technician and has served on the SLCC Automotive PAC committee, as well as the South Jordan Chamber of Commerce.
He enjoys backpacking, boating and water skiing. He also plays the guitar for relaxation and has been known to arm wrestle once in a while. Other hobbies include taking care of the salt water aquarium in the waiting room. Tim is married to Janice Stapleton and has 4 children and 8 grandchildren.
Kyle Vocana: Service Advisor

Kyle has a Bachelor's Degree in Management from Utah State University and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from University of Phoenix. Kyle is married and father of three girls. He enjoys camping, backpacking, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his wife and kids. He also loves traveling and wishes he could do more.
Shaun Squires: Service Advisor

Shaun has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Utah. Shaun also has two years of experience with advising service, and is a married, father of one. He enjoys spending time with his wife and child, traveling abroad, attending plays, musicals and symphonies, mountain biking, snowboarding, camping, cars, boating and soccer.
Jana Walsh: Office Helper

Jana works part time in the office and does some cashiering and directing traffic with the phones. She is married and a mother of three. All of her kids have or do play soccer in high school and she has two daughters who play in college. She enjoys quilting and reading along with camping and watching a lot of soccer games. She also makes a lot of after service phone calls so it's likely that you've talked to her a time or two.
Dave Nuttall: Technician

Dave has twenty-seven years of experience and is an ASE Certified Master Technician. He enjoys camping and 4-wheeling, is a grandfather of three and likes to fix cars during the day and play on computers at night.
Orson Birth: Technician
January 2008
Orson has fourteen years of experience and is an ASE Certified Technician in engine repair, brakes, steering and suspension and electrical. He enjoys golfing, riding horses and boating at Bear Lake and Lake Powell.
Roger Cook: Technician
October 1993
Roger has thirty-five years of experience and is a Certified Subaru Technician. Roger is a Member of the Murray Symphony and West Jordan City Band and has been asked to play for various community musical events. He enjoys boating, especially at Lake Powell and is a proud grandfather of three.
Kurt Johansson: Technician

Kurt is our Toyota/Lexus specialist and has all of his factory Toyota/Lexus certifications.
Kurt enjoys fishing, hiking and boating. He has been coaching youth football for 12 years and loves it. Kurt is a graduate of Granite High School and has two sons and a daughter, the youngest being 18 yrs old. He is very proud of his kids and enjoys doing things with them.
Boun Laaw: Express Lube Manager

Boun enjoys fishing, skate-boarding, and bowling. He loves eating Vietnamese pho noodles.
Mike Kraeling: Lube & Safety & Emissions Technician

Mike is an aspiring professional musician, currently in a band; he enjoys playing guitar and drums. Mike also enjoys the outdoors; hiking, camping and exploring new places. He loves to grill, especially in the great outdoors. Mike is currently learning about computer programming.
David Derricott: Lube & Safety & Emissions Technician

David is an avid student of history, philosophy, geology, physics and classical literature. He also enjoys sailing and mountain climbing.
Marcus Gallegos: Lube Technician

Marcus loves "all things cars," including racing, mudding and 4 wheeling. He is building a truck now which he hopes to complete in a few months. He also enjoys weight lifting and just "working out."

Nathan just graduated from Brighton High School where he enjoyed taking auto shop classes. He also enjoys dirt biking, camping and all things outdoors. He just competed in the Wasatch Mud Run with his Dad and his younger brother.
